The railway station
Description:
The Tver railway station appeared in the middle of the XIX century as one of the points along which the St. Petersburg-Moscow railway passed. At this time, a station of the so-called I class was built in Tver, which put it on a par with Moscow, where the station was built according to the same project.
Today there are two station buildings in Tver: the old one, built in 1845-1848 according to the project of architect R.A.Zhelyazevich, and the new one, built according to the project of V.I.Kuznetsov and opened on June 29, 1991. The new building of the Tver railway station is connected to the old underground passage.
Unfortunately, the architectural and historical appearance of the old station is almost lost today. Internal interiors were especially affected: rich draperies, colored and mirrored glass, oak flooring, marble fireplaces. In the era of the existence of the Russian Empire, the station was visited by royalty, and this kind of decoration was quite appropriate.
With the increase in the number of passengers and the number of passing trains, the old station lost its importance. It was replaced by a new building, made taking into account modern requirements. However, recently we are talking about the complete reconstruction of the station complex in Tver, so the new station may soon become part of history.
