About the company:

One of the main attractions of the city of Tyumen is the puppet theater, founded in 1945 on the initiative of E. S. Stevina, an actress of the regional drama theater. Since 1946, the institution became known as the Tyumen Regional Puppet Theater and began to give performances not only throughout the Tyumen region, but also in nearby regions. In the 1960s, the theater actively participated in international festivals of puppet groups in Romania, Poland and Bulgaria due to the active activity of director R.V. Yaichnikov. In 1972, the theater received its own building with a total capacity of 400 seats. His stage allowed to show a variety of puppet performances for adults and children. In the same year, large masks were used in performances along with dolls.

Since 1977, the theater has been a regular participant of all puppet festivals in the Urals, as well as the organizer of three such festivals. In 1998, Vasily Pustylnikov became the director of the puppet theater. In 2000-2002, the theater building was reconstructed. In early 2008, the Tyumen Puppet Theatre performed the play “The Deer King” at the fifth International Festival of Puppet Theatres named after Sergey Obraztsov.
