Great Pike Lake
Yamalo-Nenets district, Tyumen region, Russia.
Description:
Great Shchuchye Lake is located in the northern part of the Urals, in the Tyumen region, Russia. In the region, the lake is the largest and deepest.
The lake lies directly on a tectonic depression that stretches from southeast to northwest for more than 25 kilometers. Due to the fact that many rivers flow into the lake, such as the Pyryatana, the Great Shchuchya Sarmalyaha, a strong stream forms in its northern part, rushing then to the large Ob River.
The area of the lake is 12 square kilometers, the length is 15 kilometers with a width of only a kilometer. The depth of the lake is 136 meters.
Since 1997, Shchuchye Lake has been included in the Gornokhadata Biological Reserve, which is engaged in work on bison acclimatization and sheep bull reacclimatization. Hunting is forbidden here.
