Peter and Paul Church
ooh Communist, 10, Tyumen, Tyumen region, Russia
Description:
One of the many attractions of Tyumen is the Church of Peter and Paul, built in 1726-1755. It is part of the architectural complex of the Tyumen Trinity Monastery. The monastery is a rather rare type of temple in Russia - gate and cross. Experts suggest that the author of the project is the famous architect S. U. Remezov, and its prototype was the St. George Cathedral of the Kiev Vydubitsky Monastery.
Special attention of tourists is attracted by the church bell tower, which has a tent shape, traditional for pre-Petrine Russia. The Church of Peter and Paul is the last of the temples owed its appearance to Philotheus Leschinsky, Metropolitan of Tobolsk and all Siberia. In 1842, the monastery suffered from a severe fire, its restoration was started only in 1853 and lasted about three years. As a result, the church acquired a pristine appearance, only instead of the original Little Russian multi-tiered heads were installed Russian bulbs. In the ensemble with the Trinity Monastery, the monastery plays an important role in the panorama and structure of the city.
