Nikolsky
Tyumen region, Ishim, str. Leningradskaya, 34
Description:
St. Nicholas Church is one of the main architectural dominants of the city of Ishima. The temple was built in the Russian-Byzantine style from 1886 to 1891 with funds bequeathed to the Ishim merchant Nikolai Chernyakovsky. The Church has two thrones: one in the name of Alexander Nevsky, the second in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Around the building there is a magnificent picturesque garden, in which rare shrubs and plants from all over Russia were collected. It was buried Nicholas Chernyakovsky and the rector of the temple, who planted the garden, Archpriest Theodore.
The church was closed in 1940, its valuables were transferred to the state fund, part of the property was stolen. It was only in the postwar period that the believers returned to it.
