ooh Republic, 14, Tyumen, Tyumen region, Russia
Description:
The monument on the mass grave of the victims of the civil war is one of the many attractions of Tyumen. During the stay in the city of the White Guards-Kolchak was established a strict military regime, Soviet employees were imprisoned and shot. On the wasteland, in barracks near the Tura River, in the area of the current streets of Gorky and Kotelshchikov, captured Red Guardsmen languished. On the initiative of the authorities in 1927, an obelisk was erected on this place, and in early 1967 – a monument, the author of which is V. M. Belov.
The sculptural composition depicts two severely wounded Red Army men leaning against a high pylon. The hand of one of them is firmly clenched in a fist and raised up. On the pylon there is an inscription: “Eternal memory of the soldiers who gave their lives for the power of the Soviets.” The monument is set on a four-sided pedestal. There are frequent rallies around the monument, with tourists and locals coming to pay homage to the victims of the White Terror of 1919.
