Sreten cathedral
Tyumen region, g Yalutorovsk, Sretenskaya Square
Description:
Sretensky Cathedral was the main shrine of Yalutorovsk for a century and a half. The temple was built on the picturesque Tobol coast at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in the style of Russian provincial baroque, making it one of the most beautiful temples in Siberia.
Sretensky Cathedral differed from other city temples with its two-storey building and six chapters. The height of the bell tower reached 35 meters. Outstanding was the iconostasis of the temple, which consisted of three tiers and had a height of more than eleven meters.
Due to the fact that the walls of the temple gave a crack, in 1931 this majestic church was dismantled by bricks. Only photographs of the spiritual symbol of Yalutorovsk have survived to this day. In 2002, it was decided to rebuild the temple. In 2010, the Sretensky temple, reminiscent of the former, was opened on the city square of Yalutorovsk.
