Russian Academic Drama Theater of Bashkortostan
prosp. October, 79, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan 450,000, Russian Federation
About the company:
In 1861, the first building of the theater was erected in Ufa, which was located in the center of the city and was surrounded by a small garden, which was called the Sophia Garden. The building was wooden and had a hall designed for 400 seats. This date is considered the year of the founding of the Republican Russian Drama Theatre.
In 1875, the construction of a new building began, the funds for which were collected by citizens. In the season of 1890-1891, the opera troupe of Semyonov-Samarsky performed here, in which the chorusist was still a very young Fyodor Chaliapin. Unfortunately, soon the building was destroyed by fire, and literally the next year the previous building burned down. A few years later, at the expense of a well-known benefactor, merchant Vidinev, a new building was erected, which stood for more than a hundred years and was demolished only in 1991. Now the theater is located in a building that was built specifically for it in 1982.
Russian Academic Drama Theatre is a regular participant of Russian and international theater festivals and tours in Russia and abroad.
