ooh Ferina, 15, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, 450039, Russian Federation

Description:

The foundation of the Bogorodsky-Ufa temple is associated with a miracle that occurred at the beginning of the XVII century near the location of the future church. One of the villagers was an icon of the Kazan Mother of God, who helped save the village from disaster. Soon after its discovery, on the site of the appearance of the icon scored healing spring, and the image began to ascribe numerous miracles. According to legend, more than once the miraculous image of the Virgin saved the village and the city from terrible troubles and epidemics.

The miracles performed by the icon continued throughout the XVII century, and once the church leadership decided to transfer the image to Ufa, and leave an exact copy of the icon in the village. Gradually, everything mixed up in the minds of people and they ceased to distinguish which of the icons is the original, and which is a copy. Every year, thousands of cross processions were held to the place of finding the icon and the healing spring, and the icon was revered so much that it was literally hung with gifts and precious stones. But in the 1930s, a disaster occurred - both icons disappeared without a trace, preserved only in the memory of the people.

The first Bogorodsko-Ufa temple was built in 1725-1727 - it was a wooden church that stood for a little more than a hundred years and burned down in a fire in 1873. However, soon a new brick temple was built and consecrated. In 1933, the church was closed and rebuilt - the side chapters and the bell tower were dismantled, and the building was transferred to a school for mentally retarded children. The church received the temple into its jurisdiction only in 1990.
