Hakimiya Mosque

ooh Mustaya Karima, 3, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan 450,000, Russian Federation

Description:

In 1904, the Ufa provincial government received a request for permission to build a cathedral mosque. Two years later, the design was approved and construction began. Funds for the construction of a new mosque were allocated by the Tatar merchant and benefactor A.A. Khakimov. By 1908, the building of the mosque was completed, and next to it was built madrasah "Hakimiya". For his invaluable contribution to the construction of the mosque and madrasah, Abdullatif Khakimov received a hereditary honorary citizen of Ufa, and the mosque was called Khakimovskaya.

1930 marked the beginning of a difficult period in the history of the mosque. In February, it was decided to close the Khakimov mosque and transfer the building to the needs of one of the schools. The mosque was closed, but the school was never opened, and instead it was handed over to the Bashkir People’s Commissariat of Labor. Four years later, the mosque was turned into a factory club. In 1939, the building underwent a serious restructuring - first the minarets were dismantled, then the internal premises were reconstructed. Over the following years, the building passed from one institution to another, and in 1991 it was returned to the faithful.

From an architectural point of view, the building of the Khakimov mosque is very picturesque. Its walls were made of red brick, and before the reconstruction, two slender minarets, decorated with relief ornament, towered above it.
