Ikhlas Mosque
ooh Sochi, 43, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan 450103, Russian Federation
Description:
The mosque "Ikhlas" is located in the former building of the cinema "Luch", which was built in 1956. Local old-timers recall that in the 20-30s of the twentieth century at this intersection was a semi-basement house that served as a synagogue for the local community. The mosque got its name from the name of the Islamic community, which has two meanings: “purification” and “from the pure heart”.
By the end of the 1990s, the building of the cinema was in desolation, and in 1997 representatives of the Muslim community “Ikhlas” appealed to the authorities of Ufa with a request to provide the former cinema for the mosque. Initially, it was decided to demolish the building, which stood with a destroyed roof, but after a closer inspection, plans changed and a decision was made to restore it. In 1998, the former cinema became a mosque, capable of simultaneously holding about 250 men and 150 women for prayer.
Nowadays, the mosque "Ikhlas" is a whole architectural complex, which includes four buildings occupying an area of about 1 hectare. The community "Ikhlas" is one of the largest in the city, is actively engaged in educational work - it has a publishing house and even its own television studio. The mosque opens courses reading the Quran and the basics of Arabic literacy, available for children and people of any age.
