Friendship Monument

ooh October Revolution, 75, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan 450,000, Russian Federation

Description:

The Friendship Monument in Ufa was erected in 1965. Its opening was timed to the 400th anniversary of the voluntary accession of Bashkiria to the Russian state. The place for the future monument was not chosen by chance - here, on a hill on the banks of the White River, there was a log fortress, and now a 35-meter granite obelisk proudly rises. From the White River to the monument leads a granite staircase.

The composition includes several structural elements - two vertical steles are installed in the center, which are connected by three granite rings-hoops. At the base of the monument are two sitting figures, one of which depicts a Russian girl, and the second - a bashkirka. They are calm, in the hand of each of them is a laurel wreath, which they hold over a bas-relief depicting the moment when the Bashkir embassy accepted Russian citizenship. In memory of this historical event, symbolic words are carved on the monument: "1557 - 1957" and "Glory to the great brotherly friendship of the Russian and Bashkir peoples."

The sculptural group is not limited only to these figures - other subjects are depicted on the other three sides of the pedestal. One of the bas-reliefs depicts labor victories and the joy that both peoples bring achievements in construction, industry and agriculture. Two other images, located on the sides of the pedestal, are devoted to science and culture.

The Friendship Monument is very popular among residents and guests of the city and is one of the main attractions. By tradition, it is here, with the laying of flowers, that the celebration of the Days of Russia and the Republic of Bashkortostan begins.
