Lake Ayukul

Ayu-Kul, Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia

Description:

Ayukul is a former karst lake, which was located in the Arkhangelsk district in Bashkortostan. Translated from Bashkir language means "Bear Lake". Located near the river Lemez, near the village of Upper Lemez. At the moment, the lake is a swampy karst funnel, which is overgrown with grass and shrub.

The area around the lake is almost untouched by people, the locals do not go far, and bears here feel like masters. The bark of many trees is tattered by the claws of bears. Hence the name of the lake.

Once the lake was very popular with the Aborigines, since the road from the village was only to this reservoir and nowhere else.

Lake Ayukul periodically fills with snow melt waters, but in summer it dries up and turns into a swamp.
