Description:
The famous Ufa monument to Salavat Yulaev was erected in 1967. It is the largest equestrian statue in Russia, whose height is about ten meters, and weight is forty tons. The monument rises above the White River - this is the highest point of the central part of the city. This monument is considered the best work of sculptor Soslanbek Tavasiev, who worked on the creation of the monument for 30 years.
The story goes that Salavat Yulaev, along with his detachment, was sent as reinforcements to the tsarist troops intending to defeat the uprising of Emelyan Pugachev. However, Salavat decided to support the rebels and joined the ataman. The sculptor captured this very moment - Salavat Yulaev is depicted rising on the stirrups, the reins are stretched - as if the rider had just besieged a hot horse. His face is full of determination, and a raised hand with a whip is a sign to soldiers to follow him.
The monument was cast at the Leningrad plant "Sonumentskulptur" from bronze cast iron. Since its appearance, the monument to Salavat Yulaev has been recognized as one of the outstanding achievements of Soviet monumental sculpture. This is a real symbol of Ufa, the pride of citizens and all residents of Bashkortostan, reflected on the coat of arms of the republic.
