The First Ufa Cathedral Mosque
ooh Tukayeva, 52, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan, 450057, Russian Federation
Description:
The construction of the first cathedral mosque in Ufa began in 1830, after the appeal of representatives of the Muslim community of the city. The building was decided to build on the site originally allocated for the construction of the square. Architecturally, the building is one of the monuments made in the classical style and is of great interest. Funds for the construction were donated by the merchant of the first guild M. Tagirov-Khazmitev.
The original building was located in a picturesque place on a small hill, just a couple of hundred meters from the bank of the White River, and was a stone rectangular building with a 30-meter pyramidal minaret. The 1890s were marked by major works on the reconstruction of the mosque building - the area of the prayer hall was significantly increased, a spacious extension to the main volume appeared. At the same time, at the expense of parishioners, a house located next door with several outbuildings, a bathhouse and a lush orchard were bought. At the mosque there was a madrasah, as well as a Russian-Bashkir two-class school. The Cathedral Mosque for more than half a century remained the only operating mosque in Ufa.
