Intercession

Description:
At the beginning of the XVII century on the territory of the ancient posad city fortress, on one of the slopes of the ravine were built two wooden temples. One of them was summer - "cold" - and was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, and the "warm" winter temple was consecrated in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker. The wooden Pokrovskaya church stood for a little more than a hundred years, and at the end of the XVIII century it was demolished due to dilapidation, and at the beginning of the XIX century the construction of a stone temple began.
Funds for the construction of a new temple were received thanks to the efforts of merchant Danila Zhulyabin and priest John Breev, and the construction of the bell tower was taken over by Prince Urakov. As a result of their joint efforts, another expressive architectural monument created in the style of Russian classicism appeared in Ufa. However, the new Pokrovsky Church barely stood for a couple of decades - in 1821 there was a strong fire, and the newly built building was seriously damaged by fire. Because of this, the temple was consecrated only two years later. The chapel of Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated a few years before. The interior of the temple was decorated with a rich iconostasis, the author of which received a silver medal of the Imperial Academy of Arts for his work.
The fate of the Intercession Church was not much different from the fate of numerous Orthodox churches. However, due to its location in a ravine and some distance, the church was able to avoid complete destruction. It came to us almost in its original form - a unique case. In 1941, the temple was officially closed, and military and pharmacy warehouses were located in it. But in March 1957, permission was obtained to open the church - apparently, in this way, the authorities wanted to "compensate" believers for moral damage for the blown up Trinity Cathedral.
