Christmas-the Mother of God temple

ooh Kirova, 102, Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan 450078, Russian Federation

Description:

The Church of God is one of the most beautiful architectural monuments of Ufa and its main Orthodox church. Construction of the cathedral began in 1889, but soon the work stopped due to lack of funds. It is unknown how many years this process would have lasted if the well-known Ufa merchant and N.M. Patokin had not come to the aid of the diocese. He provided the necessary amount and the temple was built.

The church was built of brick, as was the three-tier bell tower. The domes were covered with iron and topped with iron crosses covered with bronze. In August 1909, eight bells were raised on the bell tower, the largest of which weighed more than 50 poods, and the smallest - 10 pounds. The total height of the church, including the bell tower, was 21 sazhen, or about 45 meters. In the same year the consecration of the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God took place.

After the revolution, the temple was not closed and functioned during the 20s - early 30s. However, in 1934, the city authorities closed the church, and all church property had already been looted. Old-timers remember that at different times the building housed a prison, a small factory, and then a cinema. Only in 1991 the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church and after a long reconstruction opened its doors to believers.
