Description:
The temple of Simeon of the Verkhotursky Wonderworker, consecrated in honor of one of the most famous Ural saints, has a not too long, but very rich history. Its appearance at the end of the XIX century is associated with the development of a new urban area adjacent to the newly built railway. With the beginning of the movement of trains on the Samaro-Zlatoust railway, active settlement of the Northern Sloboda began, and the Nikolsk station church ceased to cope with the increased number of parishioners.
In order to meet the needs of the expanded parish, in 1902 the construction of the Simeonov temple was begun. Cross-domed log temple on a stone foundation was built in a short time - in a year with little. The main throne of the new church was consecrated in the name of St. Simeon of Verkhotur, and the two sides were dedicated to Saint Alexius the man of God and the Holy Blessed Prince Michael of Tver.
In September 1931, an attempt was made to close the temple, but the parishioners made a strong protest and managed to convince the city authorities. However, the following year after the repression, the church was closed and transferred to a nearby technical school for training workshops. At the same time, the destruction of the temple began - the bell tower was demolished, and after the war - the central drum.
In the spring of 1990 Simeon-Verkhotursky temple was returned to the diocese. A difficult recovery process has begun. The worn-out walls had to be dismantled to begin the construction of a new temple. And in 1991-1994, a new Simeonov Church was built on the old foundation. Funds for construction were collected all over the world, a considerable amount contributed by Alla Pugacheva.
