State Natural Biosphere Reserve "Baikal"

The main goal of the Baikal Reserve is the preservation of unique and typical natural complexes of the Southern Baikal region, including the southern coast of Baikal and the central part of the Hamar-Daban ridge.

The tasks that are solved by the reserve:

• protection of the protected area in order to preserve biological diversity and maintain in a natural state protected natural complexes and objects
• organization and conduct of scientific research aimed at achieving the main goal of the reserve
• environmental monitoring
• environmental education and educational tourism
• participation in the state environmental expertise of projects and schemes of placement of economic and other facilities
• assistance in training of scientific personnel and specialists in the field of environmental protection

• testing and implementation in the buffer zone of the reserve of methods of environmental management that do not destroy the environment and do not deplete biological resources
