White Lake
Nikolaevsky district, Ulyanovsk region, Russia.
Description:
White Lake is a self-cleaning reservoir located in the Nikolaevsky district of the Ulyanovsk region, in the center of the Volga hill, on a water-dividing plateau, whose height is 320 meters. This is a monument of the ice age, as the age of the lake is 250 thousand years.
The clear water of the White Lake justifies its name, as does the pure white sand. It has an oval shape, mineralization is insignificant. At the bottom there is silt, consisting of dead algae, rotary shells, pollen of conifers, a small amount of sand and plant residues.
The shores are flat, low, swampy in some places. Lake White is not flowing, food is water and is produced by groundwater and atmospheric water. In winter, ice is 0.5-0.6 meters thick.
On the lake there are representatives of the flora of the ice age. On the banks grow maples, perennial pines, lime, mosses, lichens and dwarf birch.
The coast is covered by a mixed forest with a predominance of centuries-old oaks and conifers. They form a favorable climate and improve the natural environment.
On the lake is the Limbay swamp with an area of 0.075 square kilometers. It has a peat deposit with a capacity of 2 meters, folded sedge-sphagnous and sphagnous peats. The age of the alloy is about 6,000 years.
In 2009-2010, the lake shredded, in 2010 there was a fire, which burned the swamp Limbay and almost the entire coastline.
