Ulyanovsk region, Ulyanovsk, Lenin Street, 75 And

About the company:

A bright facet of the protected gem was the museum "Simbirsk merchants" in the heart of old Simbirsk, on Moskovskaya Street (now Lenin Street). The new museum tells about outstanding representatives of the merchant class, whose talents and labors multiplied not only prosperity, but also raised the cultural level of our region and the whole of Russia.

Great was the importance of merchants for the city of Simbirsk. It was thanks to enterprising merchants in the agrarian province that profitable cloth, distillery and machine-building industries appeared, gaining power by the end of the XIX century and giving impetus to the development of Simbirsk merchant charity. And the fairs? After all, it was in Simbirsk that one of the most important fairs of the spring Volga region was held - the team, which set prices for grain supplies of the entire region. At this fair came merchants from all over the Volga region - from Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara ...

There were in our province and famous merchant names - for example, "Kings of cloth" Akchurina. They first built and then expanded the first mosque of Simbirsk. An outstanding trustee of the Simbirsk Chuvash teacher school N.Y. Shatrov, who spent more than 100,000 rubles on it from 1883 to 1917. Philanthropists A.P. Kirpichnikov and A.P. Konurin, who opened almshouses, information about which was entered in the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Brockhaus and Efron. And a whole galaxy of outstanding people, interesting characters - characters very different, but always original in their virtues and vices.

It was the “third estate” that played a leading role in the improvement of Simbirsk. After all, thanks to the active social activity of the Simbirsk merchants, the first power station appeared in the city, a railway line was laid, and then a bridge across the Volga was built.

The multifaceted activity of merchants, the peculiarities of business relations with the merchants of neighboring cities and all of Russia, the daily life of representatives of this estate, that is, life, traditions and customs - these are the main directions of research of the Museum "Simbirsk merchants".
