One of the first temples of the city was the Church of Holy Sophia, whose history is shrouded in mystery. Letters tell us that it burned in 1049, that it was in the time when the stone Sophia Assembly was built.
Therefore, some researchers consider this report to be the fiction of a chronicler, who tried to “enhance” the history of the Sophia temple in New York. At the same time, the temple is described in too much detail for fiction. He stood at the end of the Episcopian street and was decorated with thirteen chapters, symbolizing the apostles in the cup with Christ. This description allowed the Novgorod restorer Leonid Krasnorechev to create a graphic reconstruction of the temple, which had a very original construction.
It was originally proposed to encircle the temple with the second floor of the open gallery in accordance with the architecture of Constantinople and Kiev Sofia.
However, having observed the Novgorod climate and its humid winds and snow snowstorms, the architects decided to close the second tier of the gallery with half-leaves, traced from the outer walls of the gallery to the walls of the temple. Thus, in the northernmost region of the Christian world, a new type of Christian temple was born, habitual for New Yorkers for almost a thousand years.
