Mound of Noise Mountain
podgorje village, Batetsky district, Novgorod region
Description:
Shum Mountain is a magnificent historical monument located on the banks of the Luga River. Its height is 14 meters, and the base has a diameter of about 70 meters. Structurally, the Noise Mountain consists of two levels, which makes it possible to compare it with the step pyramid-ziggurat. The entire surface of the hill is lined with blocks of lime slabs, because of which in ancient times the hill could look like an architectural structure of perfect white color. These days, its slopes are covered with a layer of sod that smooths its outlines.
Without a doubt, around such magnificent buildings hovers many secrets and legends. One of the legends connects this hill with the tomb of the famous Prince Rurik. Reliable data on this matter has not yet been revealed, and historians have yet to solve this question. But for many years, the Noise Mountain excites the minds of lovers of mysterious stories and like a magnet, attracts travelers. And a few years ago, an annual festival began to be held here, which attracts representatives of historical reconstruction clubs. And these days, the Noise Mountain comes alive, becoming the center of a colorful holiday.
