Novgorod Museum-Reserve

Novgorod Museum-Reserve is one of the oldest Russian museums. Since 1865, when the Museum of Antiquities was established in Novgorod, its collection has been constantly replenished and is one of the largest in Russia. 110 architectural monuments of the XII-XIX centuries, which are on the balance of the Novgorod Museum, are included in the State Code of especially valuable objects of cultural heritage, 14 of them have preserved a unique monumental painting of the XI-XVII centuries.

The collection of the Novgorod State Museum-Reserve occupies one of the leading places among Russian museums. The total number of exhibits in the collections of the museum is more than 800 thousand monuments of history, culture and art. Here is stored a rich archaeological collection, a unique collection of numismatics, sphragistics and heraldry, rare handwritten and old printed books of the XV-XVIII centuries. Documentary funds contain written documents of the XII-XIX centuries, among which there are unique princely letters. Special attention deserves an extensive collection of Russian painting, graphics and sculptures of the XVIII-XX centuries, collections of weapons, glass, porcelain, extensive ethnographic collections. Unique collections of ancient Russian painting and sculpture, works of decorative applied art, samples of ancient Russian sewing, some of which are true masterpieces, will undoubtedly make a strong impression.
