The Prechisten and Sunday Travel Towers
Russia, Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod Kremlin
Description:
The entrance to the Novgorod Kremlin in its modern form is made in the form of a travel arch. Before this place stood Prechistenskaya and Resurrection passage towers. They were built at the turn of 13-14 centuries.
In the 17th century, the towers were repaired, which was the last. The state of the buildings a century later was in such an emergency that the city Senate decided to disassemble them. And although further restoration of the towers was planned, it was never started.
Until the middle of the 19th century, there was a breach in their place - only in 1820 it was decided to build a passage arch, which is the entrance to the Kremlin to this day.
