Vladimir Tower
Russia, Veliky Novgorod, Novgorod Detenets
Description:
Vladimir Tower is the passing tower of Novgorod Detinets. It has a quadrangular shape, consists of five tiers, rises to a height with its teeth at 17.8 meters, and with a tent is 27.8 meters. The walls of the tower are two meters thick. The tower was built presumably in the 15th century. Named after the church of Vladimir in 1311. The built tower became a way to another part of Veliky Novgorod - Sofia, therefore it was also called a roadway. After everyone “passed” through the tower, it was locked with a strong gate.
During the Great Patriotic War, great damage was done to the Vladimir Tower, in the early sixties it was completely restored. Architects during the reconstruction tried to give it the appearance of the 15th century.
In 1992, the entire Novgorod Kremlin was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
