Nikolsky
Vologda region, Veliky Ustyug, embankment of the Sukhona River
Description:
Located on the banks of the Sukhona River on the site of the former shopping square, the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker was built at the expense of visiting trade "guests" - so in ancient times called merchants. The construction of the temple was started in 1682, and completed at the end of the first quarter of the XVIII century. From an architectural point of view, the building is a columnless multi-tiered temple with a three-tier bell tower.
St. Nicholas Church is an early example of a two-storey stone temple in Ustyuzha, in which the summer and winter temples were combined. The main reception was that the old subclet, which previously performed exclusively economic functions, was expanded - a winter temple was located here, and a summer temple was located on the second floor.
In 1986, at the end of the restoration work, the exhibition hall of the museum was opened in St. Nicholas Church, since then educational events and excursions dedicated to the traditional crafts of the Ustyuzh region have been held here.
