Museum of the History of Great Ustyug
Russia, Vologda region, Veliky Ustyug, St. Promenade, 64
About the company:
The Museum of the History of Veliky Ustyug was established in 1910, when a church ancient storehouse was opened in the Mikhailo-Arkhangelsk monastery. Gradually, this first museum grew into an extensive collection of objects telling about the history of Veliky Ustyug - the largest trade and craft center of the Russian North.
The exposition is located in the main building of the museum, located on the city embankment - in the past this house belonged to the merchant G.V. Usov. The exhibits cover the period from the XII to the XX century. Here you can see not only the artifacts discovered by archaeologists, but also weapons of the XII-XVI centuries, as well as original photo reconstructions. All these materials are an excellent visual guide on the history, life and religious traditions of the Finno-Ugric and Slavic population of these places.
Visitors will learn about the great importance of Ustyug and its inhabitants in the development of the northeastern lands, as well as in the creation of a unified Russian state.
