Bykovo Manor

bykovo, Ramena district, Moscow region

Description:

From the once beautiful Bykovo estate to our days, only a dilapidated palace, an abandoned park with ponds, as well as the grand Vladimir Church, which is worthy of special attention, have survived. The estate of Bykovo before had a different name and was called the estate of Maryino. The time of its foundation refers to the second half of the XVIII century, and the founder and first owner was the Governor-General of Moscow M.M. Izmailov. The author of the project of the estate in a very popular neo-Gothic style in those years was one of the most fashionable architects - Vasily Bazhenov.

Invited for the construction of the palace, Bazhenov created a magnificent architectural and park ensemble, which included a temple, a park, ponds, a winter garden, as well as a grotto and the Hermitage. Now only the foundation and ramps at the main entrance have been preserved from the palace, since in the middle of the XIX century under the new owner - Illarion Vorontsov-Dashkov - the house was rebuilt by a Swiss architect. The result was a lush palace of red brick, two floors, with a tower. Inside is preserved decor in English style.

However, the main attraction of the estate, which inspires photography lovers, is the Vladimir Church, built by Bazhenov in 1789. Visitors can freely get to the lower floor, consecrated in honor of the Nativity of Christ - here services are usually held. This is a small room with low vaults, square pillars and small windows. A more grandiose impression is made by the appearance of the temple, over the roof of which elegant turrets rise. At the sight of them involuntarily the idea arises that a medieval European castle rises before you. Since the end of the XIX century, a bell tower rises near the temple, which perfectly complements the general ensemble.
