Verkhneuralsk

It was founded in 1734 as the Verkhneyaitska fortress; its name is based on its location in the upper reaches of the Yaik River. It was part of the Uyskaya fortified line (from 1755 after the renaming of the Yaik River into the Urals, the fortress became known as Verkhneuralskaya). Since 1781 the city of Verkhneuralsk.
