He grew up on the site of the village of Pyshminskoe, founded in 1660. In 1854, on the shore of Pyshma, the Pyshminsko-Kluchevo deposit of copper ore was discovered and the first Ivanovskaya mine (mining since 1856) was laid, at which the settlement of Copper Mine appeared.
Name by location on the Pyshma River (right tributary of Tura); the upper definition indicates the presence downstream of the ancient fortress and settlement of Pyshma, now the working village of Pyshma. The etymology of the hydronym has not been established.
In 1929-34, construction of a copper electrolyte plant was carried out. In 1932, a processing plant was launched to extract cobalt from local ore.
In 1946, the working village of Pyshma was transformed into the city of Upper Pyshma.
