Description:
The Museum "Pole of Cold" is based on the school museum, which was created in 1957. The first exhibits from the Elgetsk night was brought by Rozhina Lbov Innokentyevna, Honored Teacher of the RS (Y). From newspaper clippings we know about the existence in the 20s of the museum, which was created by employees of the aerometeorological station under the leadership of Kirillina Varvara Zakharovna. The local history corner of the school in 1976 received the status of "Verkhoyansky School Museum". Then in 1988, in honor of the 350th anniversary of Verkhoyansk, the school director Rozhin I.V. and the teaching staff handed over the school museum to the district. The museum officially opened on November 1, 1990.

The museum is unique with rich geological, paleontological and archaeological material, historical information about the discovery of the cold pole in the northern hemisphere, the history of the development of the unique Verkhoyansk aerohydrometeorological station. Only here is a pure-blooded Yakut breed of cattle. The ethnography of the peoples inhabiting the northeast of Yakutia - Yakuts, Evens, Russians - is richly represented. The emphasis is made in showing the originality of the culture of the Upper Yakuts.

In addition to the main complex, there is a yurt museum - an ancient Yakut dwelling.
