Trekking in North Ossetia. digore

The route passes in the North Caucasus, through the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The place of our rest is called Digoria - this is the western part of North Ossetia, located at the foot of the Main Caucasian Range.
Mountain Digoria is a wild and unusually majestic nature. Snow on the tops of the mountains, dense coniferous forests and rivers with bizarre names Tanadon, Hebidon, Haresidon.
These amazing places are guarded by St. Uastirji - the main character of the Ossetians, whom we will definitely see! And we are waiting for high waterfalls, ancient towers, mineral springs and walks through alpine meadows to the foot of one of the largest glaciers of North Ossetia – the Tana glacier.

To pass along the tourist routes of this region, all tourists need a pass to the border zone.
For Russian citizens, the instructor issues a pass during the tour.
For citizens of foreign countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Israel), registration of the pass takes 30 working days (43 calendar days). After submitting an application for participation in the campaign, we ask each citizen of a foreign country for a copy of the passport for registration of the pass.

Day 1

11:30 - group gathering at the railway station of Vladikavkaz (near the main entrance from the city). 12:00 – group meeting at the airport of Beslan (near the main entrance).
Transfer to Digora Gorge (about 3 hours).

The city of Vladikavkaz is a monument to Uastirji - the Digorsk gorge.
Leaving the bustling city, we go to the picturesque gorges of North Ossetia. In Alagir gorge we will make a stop near the monument to St. George. Here he is called Uastirji - this is the main character of the local epic, the patron saint of men, warriors and travelers.
At an altitude of 22 meters, a spectacular rider on a steel horse seems to pierce through the rock and fly out onto the road. The weight of the sculpture is 28 tons!! This is the highest equestrian monument in the world!
Going further, ahead of us is the main gate of the mountain Digoria - the canyon of Ahsinta. A bridge "Ahsinti Head" is laid across the canyon, in our opinion - the Devil's Bridge. Under the bridge, at a depth of 80 meters, runs among the rocks of the river Urukh. From here to Digorsk gorge is already close!
After arrival, the settlement at the tourist base "The Threshold of the Sky".

Day 2

Mount Kubus. Taimazi Falls
Each area has its own special, cult mountain. In Digoria, such a mountain is Kubus.
Tourists who came here for the first time, with interest climb to Cuba. And those who have repeatedly rested in Digoria, each time consider it their duty to climb to this summit. You know why? Let us tell you in confidence – this mountain grants wishes. Honestly, honestly! =)
Mount Kubus from afar looks like a pyramid, completely covered with forests. They go here alone and in large groups, they rise here both in winter and in summer. There are sunrises and even New Year celebrations!!
At the top of the mountain grows a huge, very unusual tree. This tree is responsible for the desires of tourists. One of our favorite desires is to see luxurious, panoramic views from the top of the mountain. And that wish always comes true!
On the way back we go to the observation deck, from where we admire the complexes of waterfalls. They are born on the Taimazi glacier and have the official name "Taimazin waterfalls". But since there are three waterfalls, tourists call them “Three Sisters”.
Three sisters run in the Kharez gorge and even look very spectacular from afar! The most powerful and full-sea is the middle sister. Its white, frothy streams beckon to come closer.
The active part of the route: 14.2 km, the height difference of 1740-2340 m, the duration of the route is 6-7 hours.

Day 3

Trekking to the Karaug Glacier
One of the most favorite hiking routes on our tour is a walk to the Karaug glacier. It is the largest glacier of the Digor Gorge and the second largest glacier in the Caucasus. Currently, its length is 12 km!
On this day we will have a stunning variety of route: rocky peaks of mountains, violent river and harsh beauty of pine forest with soft litter of mosses and lichens. The path through the coniferous forest is comfortable, wide, for a very long time it goes completely without climbing. A real tourist's dream!
Coming out of the forest, for the first time we will have a view of the Karaugom glacier and the surrounding peaks. Next, the trail will lead up, along the way we will see very picturesque sand rashes. By the end of the route, we will come closer to the glacier to admire it enough and feel its icy breath.
The active part of the route: 13.8 km, the height difference of 1550-2250 m, the duration of the route is 7-8 hours.

Day 4

Galdaridon Falls (Pearl Falls)
Good morning is when on the calendar of summer, outside the window of the mountain and in the plans for today is just a walk on these mountains!
The mountain road winds with a snake, carries with it and gradually gains height. The path leads past the flowering Ivan-tea and leads into a coniferous forest. Soon, the pine branches seem to move apart - and the noisy Hares River appears before us.
The closer we get to the waterfall, the more the gorge expands. There are mountains in front of us that we will see for a whole week!
So, we've already come to the waterfall, and you haven't forgotten your swimsuits? Yes, the waterfall is cold! But will that stop us? =)

Day 5

Tanacete Glacier
Today our route will be very diverse: alpine meadows, coniferous forests, harsh stones and a real glacier!
The path will pass through the Tana glade, along the Haresidon and Tanandon rivers. Almost all rivers in North Ossetia have the prefix “don”, which means “water”, “river”.
Passing through the Tana glade, the path will lead us to the right, and immediately in the distance the goal of our hike will appear – the Tanacete glacier shining in the sun. It is from it that the Tanandon River begins, along which we will walk. And next to the kingdom of flowers: rhododendrons, lilies, Ivan tea, chamomile and stunning orange poppies.
In the Digora gorge from the Laboda mountain range, two large glaciers descend - Mosota and Tanacete. The length of the Tanacete glacier is about 4 kilometers. It's really huge!
At the foot of the glacier will stop for rest, lunch and go back.

Day 6

Ancient villages of Digoria – Lower Zadalesk, Khanas. The Frigate Tower, the fortress of the Sedanov brothers.
By mountain transport we go to the villages of Digoria to touch the history of these places.
In many villages of Ossetia, the ruins of towers and houses have been preserved, but we will go to the village of Khanaz, to the very special Frigate Castle. A masterpiece of medieval architecture of Ossetia - Mansau Castle or Frigate Tower - has been decorating the slopes of this sunny valley for many centuries. It is located at an altitude of 1500 m and proudly rises above the surroundings as a huge ship, its nose directed at the highest point of the rocky ridge of the Caucasus.
Then begins a very pleasant walking part of our route. Through the young, coniferous forest we will pass to the fortress of the Sedanov brothers. The fortress is built on a rock top, which on three sides breaks into a deep abyss, and on the fourth side is connected to the rocks by a very narrow bar. The fortress has its own, very interesting legend, which our instructor tells.
This ancient tower is beautiful in any weather: on a sunny day it looks very spectacular against the backdrop of a grand, rocky ridge. On an overcast day, thick clouds swirl around it, the tower seems to float out of the fog, and the flag of Ossetia flies at its top.
The active part of the route: 9.2 km, the height difference of 1560-1670 m, the duration of the route is 5-6 hours.

Day 7

Bayradi Falls
We will end our acquaintance with Digoria with an easy walk to the Bayradi Falls.
A little lift and we are already on target! The height of the waterfall is about 30 meters.
There is a place where you can take very spectacular pictures of falling water! And at the same time get a cool shower from the smallest drops that are carried by gusts of wind.
Active part of the route: 3.6 km, height difference 1740-1900 m, route duration 2 hours.

13:00 – transfer by minibus to Vladikavkaz.
15:30-16:00 - arrival at the airport of Beslan.
16:30 – arrival at the railway station in Vladikavkaz.
Return tickets should be purchased for transport departing from Vladikavkaz or Beslan after 17:00.

Depending on the weather conditions, the physical condition of the participants and other factors, the route of the hike may be changed.
