Climbing Kazbek from the North (5033)

Kazbek is a double-headed dormant volcano, the easternmost five-thousandth of the Caucasus. The array includes two peaks: Kazbek East (5033) and Kazbek West (5015).

From the Kazbek massif in all directions come down powerful and severely torn glaciers. To the south-east flows Gergetsky, to the north-west from the Mailian plateau in the Genaldon gorge drains beautiful icefall glacier Miley, exceeding the width of all the icefalls of the Caucasus.

Route thread: Vladikavkaz - Tmenikau (1700 m) - thermal springs (2300 m) - base camp (3500) - Kazbek plateau (4200 m) - Kazbek (5033 m)

1 day. Arrival in Vladikavkaz, meeting with a guide at 09:00. Then transfer to the Genaldon Gorge. Packing a backpack. The transition to a height of 2300 m - the upper Karmadon baths. Camping.

2 days. Transition to the next camp at a height of 3500 on the north-west buttress of the peak of the Railways. From here we will have a beautiful view of Vladikavkaz.

3 days. Transition to assault camp 4200. From here there is a view of Mount Kazbek. Camping.

4 days. Early rise. Climb to the top of Mount Kazbek. Descent to 3,500m. Camping.

5 days. Descent to hot thermal springs. Here we can not rest much and regain strength after the ascent. Descent to the village of Carmadon. Departure to Vladikavkaz.

6 days. A spare day in case there's no weather.

At the exits, the group first aid kit is at the guide. It is better to have your own set of medications for individual and chronic diseases.

This program is potentially dangerous to the health and life of any of the participants.

Guides provide the necessary safety, provided that participants comply with safety rules. All groups before the ascent are registered in the EMERCOM detachment in Vladikavkaz.

Weather.

On the northern slopes of Kazbek (height 2000 m) in summer from +10 ° C to +25 ° C, in spring and autumn from 0 ° C to +20 ° C. In the base camp (4200 m) in the summer it is from -10 ° C to +15 ° C, and in the autumn it is slightly colder, by 5-10 degrees.
