Bus tour to Murom: the power of heroes, the taste of kalaks
Description:
We invite you to an unforgettable journey through ancient Murom – a city where every street breathes history, and every stone keeps echoes of epic times! You will begin the tour in the Oka Garden on the high bank of the Oka - a place of amazing beauty, where the fresh river wind is intertwined with the rustling of foliage. Here, at the foot of the Kremlin mountain, the monument to Ilya Muromets rises majestically: a powerful figure of the hero seems to guard the city, recalling the times when exploits were part of everyday life.
Next, your way lies to the ancient Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery – one of the oldest in Russia. This place is imbued with the spirit of centuries: according to legend, here was located the princely court of St. Gleb, the youngest son of Vladimir. You will see the Church of the Transfiguration erected by decree of Ivan the Terrible, which for many years served as a reliable defensive border, and the elegant refectory Church of the Intercession of the Virgin in 1691, whose outlines harmoniously fit into the landscape.
Walking along the Gostiny rows of the XIX century, you will plunge into the atmosphere of the merchant Murom. From this point opens a fascinating panorama of two pearl monasteries of the city - Trinity and Annunciation. Their golden chapters and elegant facades with arches, columns and colored tiles seem to be an animated illustration of ancient chronicles.
In the Trinity Monastery you will find the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, built in 1642-1643, as well as the Church of the Kazan Mother of God and a high bell tower decorated with exquisite details. Here is the church of Sergius of Radonezh, carefully transferred from the village wilderness. Thousands of pilgrims come here to venerate the relics of Saints Peter and Fevronia, patrons of love and family happiness.
On the contrary, across the river, stands the Annunciation Monastery, founded by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 on the holy land, where Prince Constantine, his wife Irina and children, listed as saints, rest. Their relics still attract believers seeking spiritual consolation.
From the Oka River you will see the Resurrection Convent in all its glory: the five-domed Resurrection Church, the one-headed Vvedenskaya, slender tent bell tower create a unique architectural ensemble. In the center of the city, on the embankment, you will be greeted by the elegant Nikolo-Naberezhnaya Church, and nearby there is the New Kozmodemyansk Church (the former church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God), which now houses an exhibition hall.
After lunch "Bogatyrsky", saturated with the tastes of ancient recipes, you will go on a boat trip along the Oka. The measured movement of the vessel will allow you to admire the picturesque shores, where ancient temples coexist with modern Murom bridges, as if linking the past and the present.
The next stop is the village of Karacharovo, the legendary homeland of Ilya Muromets. Here you will immerse yourself in the atmosphere of ancient Russian life: you will visit the hero’s hut, explore the courtyard with a summer kitchen, a labase and a refrigerator, experience accuracy in archery and try to write a message on the birch bark, as our ancestors did. A special impression is made by Ilyin spring, beating from under the hoof of the heroic horse Burushka. The water here is still considered healing - after drinking it, you seem to join the strength and courage of the epic hero.
The trip to Muromskaya Kalachnaya will end, where you will find an exciting master class on baking Murom kalach. You will create this traditional delicacy with your own hands, and then taste it with aromatic tea and sweet treats. Every moment of this day – from the majestic monasteries to the simple joys of village life – will give you unique impressions and allow you to truly feel the soul of ancient Murom.
