Grand Ducal Residence of Bogolyubovo
10 km from Vladimir was built by Prince Andrew “the town of stones named after Godly”.
There is a legend, according to which the Virgin appeared to the prince on this place, ordering to found a city and a monastery here. For short years, from 1158 to 1165, a white-stone palace with the Church of Christmas, a fortress with earthen ramparts and stone walls were built in Bogolyubov.
Today in the former princely residence there is an active convent, on the territory of which fragments of the brilliant buildings of Andrei Bogolyubsky are preserved.
