Vladimir, Bogolyubovo: sightseeing tour

Description:

Vladimir is a city that any student who has studied Russian history has heard of. After all, it was one of the capitals of ancient Russia. Located on seven hills on the steep bank of the Klyazma River, Vladimir will please the eye of any guest with preserved architectural masterpieces of the 12th century and stunning views of the Vladimir-Suzdal opole.

Bogolyubovo is once the former residence of Grand Duke Andrei Bogolyubsky, who played a crucial role in the history of 12th century Russia, moving the capital from Kiev to Vladimir. Removing from the new capital by 12 km, the prince built a white-stone city (in wooden Russia!) on the place of “beloved God” and lived there, fervently praying and managing Rus from there. Unfortunately, there is little left of the former greatness. On the site of the princely chambers is now a monastery. And one and a half kilometers from the monastery, in the middle of the bay meadows proudly towers the white-stone temple of the Intercession on the Nerli, which is one of the most recognizable temples of Russia!
