The Mother of God-Christmas Monastery

The Virgin-Christmas Monastery is located in a picturesque place on the high bank of the Klyazma River. The monastery is located at the address-Big Moscow street, 68. Many explorers believe that the year of foundation is 1191 - the time of laying the church in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin. According to others, based on the chronicles, the year of foundation is 1192. However, the abbot of the monastery was first mentioned in the chronicle of 1206.

In 1918 the monastery was suspended for 70 years. Later, in 1930, the cathedral was dismantled by order of the OGPU. Only in 1992 the monastery and the residence of the bishop were restored. The cathedral was restored on the basis of excavations conducted in 1997-1999, according to their results, the foundation was opened and measured, a large number of details of the cathedral were found. In 2004, the temple was completed, the architecture of which repeats certain details of the cathedral.
