The Mother of God, the Nativity Monastery. The Wall Temple in Honor of the Nativity of Christ

Bolshoy Moskovsky street, 68, Vladimir, Vladimir region, Russia

Description:

This monastery, founded by Prince Vladimir Andrey Bogolyubsky in 1175, is a vivid example of an eclectic temple with baroque decor.

Alexander Nevsky was buried in the church of this monastery, who died on the way back from the Horde on November 14, 1263. The monastery buildings were badly damaged by the raids of the Tatars, after which they were restored in 1858.

In the monastery there is an icon of the Sign of the Mother of God, which belonged to Prince Alexander and was with him in the war with the Swedes and Livonians in the XIII century.

Under the church of the monastery there is an ancient storehouse, which stores many ancient monuments, a library, as well as a warehouse of icons and books of the Alexander Nevsky Brotherhood.

The temple is located in the center of the city, next to the river Klyazma, and determines the view of the whole city.
