Church of Nicolas Wet in the Halls

Nikolo-Galeiska Street, 26, Vladimir, Vladimir Region

Description:

The Church of Nikola in Galei is located in Vladimir on the banks of Klyazma. In the 17th century, there was a pier against the church, which was molested by "galei" - sailing river vessels. It is to them that the church owes its name. In common parlance it bears the name of Nikola Mokroy. It was built in honor of Nicholas the Pleasant, who is considered the patron saint of those who travel and swim on water.

Since the 12th century there was a wooden church on this place. In 1732-1735, the well-to-do Vladimir Yamnik IG Pavlygin donated funds for the construction of a new church building, his name carved near the western doors. The stone church is a typical example of Posad architecture of the 17th century.

The Nicolo-Galeian Church is a harmonious building belonging to the type of so-called “refectory” churches. On the high four there are four eights descending in size, crowned with a golden onion with an elegant openwork cross. The ensemble is complemented by a tent bell tower. From the west to the four adjoins the refectory. The temple fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape, looks light and “floating” above Klyazma.

Get to the temple located at the address: street. Nikolo-Galeiskaya, 26, can be on bus routes 12a, 15, 22, 25 and 26.
