Dmitrievsky Cathedral is a Byzantine temple built in the shape of a cross and framed by semicircular lowered ledges of the building, a gilded dome crowns an openwork cross with a weather vane.
The cathedral was built by order of Prince Vsevolod the Big Nest, the building was built in 1194-1197.
The cathedral is a white-stone cross-domed church, which often reminds many tourists of the famous Church of the Intercession on the Nerl, because they are quite similar in appearance.
On the walls of the cathedral there are chic bas-reliefs with images of saints, as well as mythical animals. The cathedral is considered a masterpiece of ancient architecture, which is why tourists first of all are so eager to visit it. On the west side of the cathedral are depicted the exploits of Hercules, on the east - the life of King David, on the south - scenes of the ascension of Alexander the Great, and on the north - portraits of Prince Vsevolod and his family.
