Russia, Vladimir, Bolshaya Moskovskaya Street, 56, Assumption Cathedral
Description:
At the intersection of Bolshoi Moscow and Muromskaya streets of the city of Vladimir is the Assumption Cathedral - an outstanding monument of ancient Russian white-stone architecture.
One of its attractions is a monument - a cross in honor of the "2000th anniversary of the Nativity of Christ". At the turn of the 20-21 centuries, the Russian government, together with the Patriarchate, launched the program "Christianity-2000", within the framework of which crosses were installed in a number of cities of the Russian Federation.
The first of them was installed in early October 1999 in Vladimir. The cross is located on a pedestal of white stone and is a forged construction, symbolizing the entry of humanity into the new millennium.
Each element of the cross symbolizes something. The sign of Christ’s birth is the Star of Bethlehem, the ball is an event whose significance is great on the scale of the whole planet, and the letter “B” with the sign of a thousand located behind it is the Church-Slavic significance of this year memorable for all Christianity.
