Savior Church
Description:
In 1164 Vladimir Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky built a white-stone church, dedicating its name to the Yablochny Savior. Until 1764, it was the main among the churches of the Savior’s Zlatovratsky Monastery, which existed here earlier.
The present Savior Church was built in the late 18th century, but brick was used instead of wood, as it was burned down in 1778. As the excavations of archaeologists, which were carried out with the participation of the famous figure N. Voronin, showed, the temple was built on the foundation of the old one, as a small part of the old church was preserved, since the stone from the old walls was actively used in the construction.
Nearby, there is a small warm church of Nikola, which is a whole decoration of the city, so beautifully built it. Although there is no exact date of its construction, it was created, undoubtedly, in the traditions of the architectural narrowness of the second half of the XVII century.
