Holy Bogolyuba convent
Description:
Holy Bogolyubsky convent was founded in 1155 by Grand Duke Andrei Bogolyubsky. Legend has it that at midnight the Most Holy Mother of God herself appeared to him and ordered to build a temple and found a monastery to house her miraculous icon. The prince obeyed, and in 1157 construction began in Vladimir.
After his death, the monastery underwent several looting and ruin, but still continued to exist. Princes, kings, as well as other famous spiritual and state figures often came here. The last Russian Emperor Nicholas II honored the Bogolyubsky monastery on May 13, 1913. Here he entered the grand ducal chambers and attached himself to the miraculous icon. In 1891, the Holy Bogolyubsky Monastery was built in the first class, and at the beginning of the XX century the monastery numbered about 75 people.
Currently, more than 170 women live in the Holy Bogolyubsky convent, and its abbess is Antonia Shakhovtseva. The priest of the monastery is Archimandrite Peter Kucher. Every year hundreds of tourists and pilgrims come here to touch the miraculous icon.
