Russia, Vladimir region, near the city Cover
Description:
If you want solitude and enjoy amazing Russian nature, then visit St. Vvedensky Island Monastery. It is located far from the megacities on the island in the middle of Vyatsky (Vvedensky) Lake, near the city of Pokrov. It was founded in 1708 by the monks of the Antonian desert Sergius and Timothy. They built a wooden chapel and cells.
Later, the brothers increased and a temple was erected in the name of the Introduction of the Most Holy Mother of God. And the monk Sergius was consecrated in hieromonk and appointed builder of the monastery. Later, a stone church was built in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. And near the gate of the monastery, a wooden church was erected in honor of the prophet Elijah.
The brothers sought to live and pray according to the strict Athos Rules. In addition, for pilgrims who could stay no more than three days, a monastery hotel and a dining room were built. Everything was free of charge.
But, unfortunately, in 1918 the monastery was closed, and all property was nationalized. In 1932, a labor educational colony operated on the territory of the monastery. In the Vvedensky church, a school for juvenile prisoners was organized, and in the St. Nicholas Church a cinema and a club were organized. Only since 1991 began the gradual transfer of the premises of the Orthodox Church and the restoration of the monastery. On June 6, 1995, by the decision of the Holy Synod, this place was given the status of a “women’s monastery” and the abbess of the restored monastery, nun Fevronya, was appointed.
