The Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir is one of the most significant monuments of white-stone architecture of pre-Mongolian Rus. It was the main temple of Vladimir-Suzdal Rus before Moscow rose. It hosted the weddings of the grand princes-heirs from the Vladimir Moscow region. In the image of this cathedral, a huge number of later cathedrals were built, including the Assumption Cathedral of Aristotle Fioravanti.
The Assumption Cathedral has a rich history and amazing appearance, it is included in the UNESCO object.
The cathedral was built in 1158-1160 under Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky. Already in 1161 the cathedral was covered with rich paintings. By the standards of the time it was very large, its entire structure spoke of aspiration upwards. The stone from which the temple was built was only of the highest quality. The temple is much higher than the Sophia cathedrals of Kiev and Novgorod.
