About the company:

Primorsky Academic Regional Theater named after Maxim Gorky is the oldest theater in Vladivostok, which has its own history, traditions, established creative team, its audience, its ups and downs. Although the ups must have been much more. The creative path of the Primorsky Academic Regional Drama Theatre opened on November 3, 1932 with the play “Street of Joy” by Nathan Zarha. But even before the opening of the first theatrical season on October 11, 1932, the Vladivostok City Council decided to name the theater in honor of the fortieth anniversary of Maxim Gorky’s literary activity.

Theatre them. Gorky was not created from scratch. It originated on the basis of the Vladivostok City Drama Theatre. In different years, outstanding artists Alexander Pobegalov, Nikifor Kolofidin, German Apitin, Grigory Kozell, Valery Nikitin worked in Vladivostok. Against the background of this pleiad of stage masters, three brightest talents that left an indelible mark in the history of theatrical Vladivostok – Andrei Prysyazhnyuk, Vadim Myalk, Evgeny Shalnikov – sparkled with special brilliance.

In 1975, the theater moved to a new building with an auditorium for 916 seats and a small stage for 100 seats (after the reconstruction of the small stage, 50 seats remained). The architects and builders of the theater building were awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR.

Today, the academic theater of Vladivostok increasingly demonstrates itself as a theater show, theater spectacle, embodying this spectacle, mainly in the classic works of Russian and foreign authors. He has found his place in the theatre world and is a well-deserved success. The combination of dramatic and musical arts, festiveness and brightness, color and element of play - all this makes it different from other theaters in Russia.
