Description:
St. Seraphim Monastery is located on Russky Island near the city of Vladivostok. The monastery was opened on October 6, 2001, it is the only island monastery in the Far East. On the site of the modern monastery before the revolution stood barracks, one of which was adapted for the church. After 1917, the troops withdrew from the island, and this fertile place came into desolation. In the 80s there was a fire and the building was badly damaged, only the walls and a small part of the roof survived.
In 2000, a parish was created on the ruins of the regimental church, services were held in a small cramped room, and in 2001 the parish was transformed into the St. Seraphim Monastery.
The building of the temple is made of red brick, the roof with a dome crowns the church, and a cross rises above it. In 2005, a cell building was built on the territory of the monastery, since earlier monks lived in the temple. In 2006, a whole complex of buildings was built: workshops, a hotel for pilgrims, outbuildings and a strangely hospitable women's house with a prosphora. And by January 15, 2006, on the day of memory of Seraphim of Sarov, under whose patronage the monastery is located, a gatehouse was built. The temple is open during the day, and on holidays and Sundays services are held here.
