Excursion "Stalingrad frontiers". Soldier Field and Rossoshinsky Memorial

The tour passes through the places of fierce battles of the Battle of Stalingrad, where the ground still keeps traces of battles that took place in 1942-1943. The war there reminds itself of the remnants of defensive lines and pits on the site of houses erased from the face of the earth settlements.

During the tour you will get acquainted with two of the most famous memorials in the Volgograd region, created in memory of those who fell in the Battle of Stalingrad. You will see the sculptures “Girl Mila” on the Soldier’s Field, as well as “Sorrowing” and the Chapel of Reconciliation at the Rossoshinsky Memorial, which is distinguished by the peculiarity of architectural design and the fact that not only the defenders of Stalingrad, but also their former opponents are buried there. Their remains were found by search teams and now former opponents found peace in this land, scorched not only by the hot Volgograd sun, but also by the battles of two wars - the Civil and Second World War. Now there is silence and only the wind makes noise, spreading the smells of steppe grasses. "Soldiers' graves are the greatest preachers of the world" - these words of Nobel laureate Albert Schweitzer can be read in the German part of the memorial.

During the tour, I will tell you why the Rossoshinsky line was important, what the height of 154.2 is and why so many remains of Soviet soldiers are found in those places. We will also discuss the railways and airfields used during the Battle of Stalingrad.
