Olkhovka - Gusevka

This journey will take you to mysterious chalk caves and holy springs. The excursion to Olkhovka offers you a visit to the Belogorsk Kamennobrodsky Holy Trinity and Gusevsky Akhtyrsky Monastery. The weekend tour includes visits to springs, giant oaks and chalk mountains.

Kamennobrodsky Holy Trinity Monastery (Olkhovka). Monastic settlements on this place were known almost since the invasion of the Tatar-Mongols. According to legend, it was here that monks came from a community devastated by nomads. Initially, only a monastic male hermitage was on the site of the monastery.

Near the monastery there are several healing springs. But most of all it is famous for its dungeons, which are a 4-tiered labyrinth under the monastery itself and in the chalk mountain. Currently, only 150 meters of tunnels are used. They're open to the public. Not far from the monastery grow 11 oak giants, each of which is almost fifty years old. These mighty elders were contemporaries of the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible, witnesses to the founding of Tsaritsyn.

Gusevsky Akhtyrsky convent (village of Gusevka). The village of Gusevka is located in a picturesque place near the Ilovli River in the Olkhov district. Here, almost a century and a half ago, a monastery was founded. According to legend, there was a cave in this monastery, one of the exits of which led to the monastery well. Water from which heals the soul and body. The special pride of the monastery is the miraculous icon of the Akhtyr Mother of God and the only relic in the region with particles of relics of all 14 Optina elders.
